Arai Corsair-X RC Helmet
The Arai Corsair-X RC is a full face motorcycle helmet based on the technology used in Arai's F1 GP helmets, specifically the GP-7SRC platform. The outer shell is built from the same carbon fibre used in the newest generation of commercial airliners, combined with Arai's own resin and Zylon reinforcement, plus an exclusive Peripheral Belt across the forehead area above the eye port.
It is designed for track and high-performance road use. Key features include the VAS (Variable Axis Shield) mechanism with a moving pivot point for smooth shield operation at a lower mount position, the IC Duct-5 chin vent providing 11% more airflow than the previous Delta Duct 5, and Type 12 diffusers that are 20 mm longer and take in 19% more air than the previous design. Arai also offers multiple interior fit shapes to address variation in head shapes and sizes.

Shell Construction
The Corsair-X RC shell uses carbon fibre of the same specification found in the newest generation of commercial airliners, combined with Arai's own resin and Zylon reinforcement. An exclusive Peripheral Belt extends across the forehead area above the eye port to add structural rigidity in that zone. The shell profile is rounder and smoother in the temple area compared to the Corsair-V, with an average of 24 mm more smooth area above the VAS pivot cover, which increases the helmet's ability to glance off objects during an impact.
VAS (Variable Axis Shield) Mechanism
The Corsair-X uses the VAS mechanism, which replaces the single-axis pivot of the Corsair-V with a variable axis incorporating a moving pivot point. By combining the pin trajectory (based on an imaginary axis) with two trajectories from a double pivot point slot, the shield opens and closes smoothly even at the lower shield mount position used on this model. A dual-function lever releases both the side cover and pod and the shield pin simultaneously for quick shield removal. The VAS pivot cover is smaller and lower than the previous design, which contributes to the 24 mm increase in smooth shell area above it. The VAS latch holds the shield securely closed to prevent unexpected opening and also provides a de-mist function.
IC Duct-5 Chin Vent
The IC Duct-5 provides 11% more airflow than the previous Delta Duct 5. The switch has three positions, is easier to operate than the previous design, and limits water intrusion when fully closed.
Type 12 Top Diffusers
The Type 12 diffusers are 20 mm longer than the previous design and take in 19% more air. The intake vents have three positions and are designed to provide improved sealing, which reduces road noise and water intrusion.
Chin Curtain
The chin curtain follows the egg-shaped form of the outer shell. It blocks turbulent air from entering under the helmet and increases negative pressure at the chin vent, drawing more air from the mouth area to improve ventilation effectiveness.
VAS Max Vision Shield
The VAS Max Vision shield is fitted as standard. A clear Pinlock insert is included. The shield is designed to provide clear visibility across all seasons and riding conditions.
Interior Fit and Comfort
The fully removable comfort liner uses odour-resistant material that helps maintain a neutral pH level close to the skin. The interior includes removable temple padding and a removable and replaceable crown pad for a customized fit. Arai offers multiple interior fit shapes across its helmet range to address the variation in riders' head shapes and sizes, and the Corsair-X RC is built on this same philosophy.
Frequently Asked Questions
What shell material does the Arai Corsair-X RC use?
The shell uses carbon fibre of the same specification as the newest generation of commercial airliners, combined with Arai's own resin, Zylon reinforcement, and an exclusive Peripheral Belt across the forehead area above the eye port.
What is the VAS mechanism?
VAS stands for Variable Axis Shield. It uses a moving pivot point and a double pivot point slot to allow the shield to open and close smoothly at a lower mount position than the previous single-axis design on the Corsair-V.
How much more airflow does the IC Duct-5 provide compared to the previous design?
The IC Duct-5 provides 11% more airflow than the previous Delta Duct 5 chin vent.
How do the Type 12 diffusers compare to the previous design?
They are 20 mm longer and take in 19% more air than the previous diffuser design. They also have a 3-position switch with improved sealing to reduce road noise and water intrusion.
Is a Pinlock insert included?
Yes. A clear Pinlock insert is included as standard with the Corsair-X RC.
What sizes does the Arai Corsair-X RC come in?
It is available in S, M, L, and XL.
