2027 Suzuki SV-7S: First Look at the Reborn SV650 V-Twin

If you did not own a Suzuki SV650 as your first or second bike, you probably know someone who did. Aside from a brief stint as the Gladius, the SV650 has been around since 1999. It stayed in Suzuki's US lineup for 2026 but was dropped in Europe because it did not meet Euro5+ emissions standards.
After Suzuki introduced the SV-7GX last year, it made sense for the SV650 to return with the GX's Euro5+ engine. The result is the 2027 Suzuki SV-7S. The new name takes some getting used to, but wisely Suzuki did not mess with the styling. The SV-7S looks much like the SV650, with a new LED headlight, new LED turn signals and a new wheel design. The fuel tank was redesigned, keeping the same 3.7-gallon capacity but reshaped to make room for new electronics.
Engine and electronics
The engine remains the familiar 645cc 90-degree V-twin, with changes to the intake and electronic throttle bodies and a new catalytic converter to meet Euro5+. It still produces a claimed 73 hp at 8,500 rpm and 47.2 lb-ft at 6,800 rpm, the same as the SV-7GX, and Suzuki revised the gear ratios and updated the magneto.
The bigger change is modern electronics: a ride-by-wire throttle with three power modes, a three-mode traction control system and a bidirectional quickshifter, all managed through a new 4.2-inch TFT display with turn-by-turn navigation.
Chassis
Braking is unchanged, with dual 290mm front discs and four-piston Tokico calipers and a single 240mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper. Suspension uses a 41mm telescopic fork with 4.9 inches of travel and a linked monoshock with adjustable preload and 5.1 inches of travel, with revised tuning for improved rider comfort. The bike rides on Dunlop Roadsmart 3 tires.
